Frequently Asked Questions
If you have been in a battering relationship, it is a good idea to get counseling for yourself even if you think you are alright. Our local Battered Women's Shelter should have names and telephone numbers of agencies that provide free or sliding-scale therapy or support groups. Victims Assistance can also help you along this difficult journey by providing advocates and counseling for you. Talking to other battered women can help prevent you from becoming involved in future abusive relationships and help you improve your self-esteem. Your children may also need counseling to deal with inner frustrations and anxieties as well. Some shelters have support groups for children as well and typically welcome your children should you need to bring them with you.
