The North Carolina presumptive child support guidelines provide a scale which ends at a combined gross monthly income of $20,000.00 per month. Should the parties’ income exceed the table utilized by the guidelines, then the court is to consider the actual reasonable needs and expenses of the children for whom support is being calculated as well as the ability of each parent to provide support for the children. Since the guideline amounts have been exceed, the calculation is sometimes referred to as “off the guidelines.”
