Both parents have a duty to financially support their children. Child support is based on a guideline amount provided by North Carolina's statutes. It is based on the parties' gross incomes and their contributions for health insurance, day care costs, and any extra ordinary expenses paid for by either parent for the benefiit of the minor child. After this consideration, the court will more than likely utilize a worksheet B to calculate the child support obligation of the parties.
