Practice Philosophy
"I chose a career in family law to make a positive difference in people's lives. I understand the distress and anxiety caused by family law issues and the impact of separation and divorce on families and children. My goal is to work closely with my clients to resolve their legal issues and to assist them and their families in moving forward with their lives.
I have spent the majority of my legal career practicing family law. I began as an Assistant Attorney General for the District of Columbia in the Child Support Services Division where I litigated numerous child support cases. I then joined a Maryland family law firm where, for several years, I represented clients of all income levels on a broad range of matters, including complex child custody and financial issues. I left my private practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland and moved to Charlotte so that I could live near my family and practice family law here.
As I developed my family law practice, my philosophy became clear: When possible, strive to achieve resolution through settlement, but be prepared to litigate if necessary. While some cases cannot be resolved amicably and must be litigated, an out of court resolution is most often in the client's best interest. With litigation, the Court renders a decision while alternative approaches (i.e., mediation, negotiation and the Collaborative Law process) all give the parties control of the ultimate resolution.
Regardless of how your case is resolved, as your attorney I will take a practical approach and develop a focused strategy for you. We will work together so you can understand your options and make educated and informed decisions. You will always have an open line of communication with me and you will be prepared for every step along the way to resolving your case."
