In the past several months, Hatcher Law Group has brought on three new associates, Marsha Kennedy, Carson Miller and Courtney Hamer. Although Marsha, Carson and Courtney each bring something unique to HLG, they share a passion for family law and helping people.
Marsha Kennedy
Marsha grew up outside of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her BA in Speech Communications and then got her J. D. from the University of Georgia School of Law. Marsha began her legal career working in Illinois as an insurance regulatory attorney. Marsha continued her insurance regulation practice upon returning to North Carolina working in house for Royal and Sun Alliance. Upon leaving Royal, Marsha transitioned into a new position with Northwestern Financial Network. At Northwestern, Marsha worked with small businesses and individuals helping them develop, analyze and implement financial strategies.
As a result of her own separation and divorce, Marsha began leading a divorce workshop designed to help people going through divorce do so with grace, optimism and dignity. Through The Grace Institute, Marsha leads eight week workshops and speaks to groups small and large on the emotional and financial aspects of divorce. (www.divorcewithgrace.net)
A few years ago, she also began working with the Council for Children’s Rights as a volunteer attorney. Her work with children and individuals facing divorce lead Marsha to become certified as a Family Law Mediator and a Parent Coordinator. Working with children and families facing the effects of divorce became a passion for Marsha and led her to her current position with HLG, where she now practices family law, works as a family law mediator and a parent coordinator.
Marsha has fifteen year old twins and spends most of her time away from the office on the soccer and lacrosse fields. She also enjoys tennis and hopes to run her first marathon this year.
Carson Miller
Carson is from Bethel, North Carolina. She also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in Business and minored in English. Carson was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. While at Carolina, she participated in two study abroad programs. She spent a summer in England at Oxford University, where she studied Shakespeare. Additionally, through Carolina’s Kenan Flagler Business School, Carson spent a summer in Germany and Belgium studying the manufacturing processes of several foreign car makers. She has also traveled to Australia, Spain, France, Italy, and the Czech Republic.
After graduating from Carolina, Carson lived and worked in Charlotte for two years before going to Wake Forest University School of Law. While in law school, she realized her passion for family law. Carson participated in the Elder Law Clinic, an externship program where she worked directly with elderly clients helping them with their wills and estate planning as well as other matters. After graduating from law school, Carson returned to Charlotte to begin her career in family law.
Courtney Hamer
Courtney moved to Charlotte from Wilmington, NC when she was eight years old. She attended Myers Park High School and was in the International Baccalaureate magnet program there. Like Marsha and Carson, Courtney also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she majored in American History. While at Carolina, she was in the Phi Mu sorority.
Courtney attended Florida Coastal School of Law, where she was involved in the Student Bar Association and the Animal Law Society. After taking her first family law class during her second year of law school, Courtney knew that she wanted to practice in family law. While in law school, she worked at the FCSL’s Family and Child Advocacy Clinic, where students were certified by the Florida Supreme Court to represent indigent clients under the supervision of a licensed attorney.
Hatcher Law Group is excited to welcome Marsha, Carson and Courtney.
