The Hatcher Law Group helped sponsor the 13th annual Men for Change Breakfast at Bank of America Stadium in downtown Charlotte.  The breakfast was held on June 2, 2010 as part of the organization’s annual fundraiser for the Battered Women’s Shelter of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.  Men for Change is an organization, comprised only of men, who work with United Family Services of Mecklenburg County to raise awareness of the issues of domestic violence in our community and to hold a fundraising breakfast each year.  This year’s event was a tremendous success with approximately 400 men filling the banquet hall to capacity.  Historically, Men for Change has raised close to $700,000 for the shelter and early indicators are that this year’s event will carry on that fine tradition.  Greg Hatcher, Paul DeJesse and Matthew Phlegar of the Hatcher Law Group were not only in attendance at the breakfast but are members of the organization.

AS A MAN FOR CHANGE, I PLEDGE:
·         Not to participate in relationship violence and not to tolerate it in other men.
·         To take a leadership role in discouraging other men from abusing their partners.
·         Not to remain a silent bystander, as silence condones abuse.
·         To challenge men who use sexist language and make degrading jokes or comments about women.
·         To examine my own attitudes and beliefs about violence, power, control and entitlement.
·         To talk with boys and young men about healthy and equitable attitudes and relationships.
·         To be the husband, father, brother, co-worker, teammate, and friend who says:

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS UNACCEPTABLE.
I will not silently stand by and allow it to continue.’”
